When you look at a dentist’s hand-held device, you can only imagine how small the motors and drive units inside the device must be—especially since they perform highly precise work at rotational speeds of up to 500,000 min-1. In the idyllic town of Leutkirch in the Allgäu region, SycoTec manufactures precisely these components, among others, and faces some tricky challenges in the process. However, the company not only produces intricate components for dental technology but has also become one of the world’s largest suppliers of high-speed drives. The business division encompasses a broad spectrum of customized electric drives and motor components, ranging all the way to turbogenerators and special-purpose motors.
The third pillar of the business, “Components,” also requires a great deal of expertise and experience. All technologies, including milling, turning, grinding, honing, laser welding, deep drawing, and robotic welding, are available. Handling the wide variety of static and rotating tools used on the numerous machine tools poses an especially significant challenge for SycoTec. Furthermore, delicate components with very low tolerances must be manufactured in small to middle batch sizes—all while maintaining high efficiency.
